Call for Applications for AGYW Influence and Engagement Leads

Development Agenda for Girls and Women in Africa Network (DAWA) is an indigenous young women founded and led network in Africa committed to promoting leadership for and by AGYW in their diversity using an integrated approach to , addressing gender equality, poverty eradication , education and to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and young women are respected, guaranteed and promoted because these are central to enabling young women and girls to have autonomy over their lives and their overall well-being and participate in decision making on issues that affect their lives . We are students, researchers, lawyers, health care professionals, educators, development workers, and most importantly, we are all dedicated activists. Advocacy, knowledge generation, information sharing, partnerships and collaborations and capacity strengthening being the core methodologies we use to ensure girls and young women have the capacity to lead and thrive.

Time commitment and availability is key to DAWAs success. In addition to supporting our principles and values, we look for AGYW Influence and Engagement Leads who have enough time to meaningfully contribute to the work that we do AGYW Influence and Engagement Leads are required to devote a minimum of 10-15 hours per week to DAWA activities, which includes responding to emails, contributing to online discussions and taking part in our planned activities). Previous knowledge of international-level and regional advocacy and policy instruments (e.g. the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action, the Sustainable Development Goals, Eastern and Southern Africa Commitment on Comprehensive Sexuality Education, Beijing+25 etc.) is considered an asset.

DAWA seeks to recruit AGYW Influence and Engagement Leads for a period of 2 years from June 2021 to June 2023 and between the ages 15-35 years.

AGYW leaders from eSwatini, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, Madagascar, Botswana, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent DAWA in regional and global advocacy spaces
  • Supporting project and programme design, implementation and monitoring to ensure objectives are met
  • Supporting mobilisation of AGYW from Eastern and Southern Africa to be part of the DAWA Network
  • Where possible engage and support in resource mobilisation activities
  • Identifying regional and global advocacy opportunities and sharing with the rest of DAWA network through email, social media etc
  • Support coordination and mobilisation of AGYW in social media advocacy

Desirable skills and competencies include:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  •  Facilitation and public speaking skills;
  • Experience in information and communications technologies, graphic design.
  •  Experience in activism (either digital or physical)
  •  A human rights background (knowledge of gender justice, feminist, and anti-oppression issues preferred)
  •  Experience in organizing advocacy campaigns
  •  Experience with local/regional/international volunteer and/or youth organizations/networks.
  • Experience working remotely
  •  Experience in fund development including proposal writing and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in organizational management, strategic planning, budgeting, and human resource management, designing reports

● Your resumé or curriculum vitae (in English and not more than 3 pages) outlining your experience in youth advocacy and sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV prevention and with at least 2 referees
